George Town is a city all about two of my favourite things: food and art (but mostly food). If there is one thing to do in George Town (and Malaysia in general) is eat. You should make sure you try out local food and eat your way around.

Things to do in George Town

Love Lane

Love Lane (or ‘Lorong Love’) is a trendy area of George Town with cafes, boutique hotels, and quirky stores. It has a lot of street art that reflects Penangs charm. This area used to be where the brothels and bars were, but has since been updated.

  • Berryls chocolate story (chocolate store)

  • Unique Penang Art Gallery

Armenia St

Armenia St (or ‘Lebuh Armenian’) is apparently the most instagrammed street in Penang. It is next to Love Lane. It has beautiful street art, murals, and heritage Chinese shopfronts.

Museums

George Town has loads of quirky museums. This includes the Batik Painting Museum (our favourite), the Upside Down Museum, the Asia Camera Museum, The Ghost Museum, The Science Museum and many more. They also have a 3D Trick Art Museum. There’s also Penang State Art Gallery.

They also have a WonderFood Museum to pay homage to Penang’s food culture. This museum is about all things food, food, food.

Gurney Drive Hawker Centre

This vibrant food haven offers an array of local delicacies that can interest any palate. One of Penang's most famous hawker centres. The centre brings together dozens of stalls serving Penang's greatest hits under one roof: char kway teow, Hokkien mee, oyster omelette (or chien), laksa, pasembur, and more. Come hungry
